Granny's Handbag

There's something comforting about Fall. The sweet spices and scents of the season just make you want to curl up on the couch...and drink.

We've created this "Granny's Handbag" as an ode to Fall, complete with citrus and spice, with just enough sweetness. But beyond the spice and citrus, what really stands out is the Bourbon. As you likely know, September is Bourbon Heritage Month. We kicked it off with our September 3st of the Month and are closing it out with one of the amazing products we served at the event, Angel's Envy Bourbon. This stuff is beyond delicious. They take what would be an already incredible bourbon and finish it in Port Wine barrels. Right? It even sounds good. It's the key to this cocktail - so make it with whatever you wish, but to make it right, use Angel's Envy.

As for the other ingredients, we also suggest not just using any brand of orange curaçao, but finding a traditional "dry" curaçao, like the one made by Pierre Ferrand. It's significantly more complex, as they use legit curaçao orange peels, imparting some bitterness that basic curaçao brands just don't have.

equipment:

cocktail mixing glass
bar spoon
strainer
cocktail glass

ingredients:

2 oz Angel's Envy Bourbon
.5 oz Dry Curaçao
.5 oz Cynar
.5 oz Brandy
.5 oz cinnamon simple syrup (recipe)
2 dashes orange bitters
orange peel and cinnamon stick for garnish.

method:

Chill your cocktail glass and set aside. Fill your cocktail mixing glass with ice and add all liquid ingredients. Stir to chill and strain into your chilled cocktail glass. Express the oils of the orange peel over the glass, run the peel around the rim and drop into the glass. Add cinnamon stick and serve.
